Our dear friend Paula Marksbury died on 18June2024 in Athens, Tennessee at her home in the hills. Paula was part of the royalty in the Art Festival artist world with large fused glass creation of extraordinary color and design. Her work was sought after by collectors who spared no expense to acquire her art.
Working with her longtime partner and collaborator, Jim McGie, they travelled all across the country exhibiting at blue-chip art festivals garnering many awards and prizes. Jim is a top wood artist whose own artwork fit their style as premier creators.
Paula’s trademark use of fantastic color-change dichroic glass stopped people in their tracks taking their breath away. At shows she always had a crowd of buyers and adoring fans gathered to see her work and marvel at the mystical atmospheric glass that was alive with light and color.
Upon opening her booth early on the first day of a show before anything was sold the display was a dazzling cathedral. It seemed to be inhabited by spirits set free from the glass to illuminate the world. She dressed in the latest art fashion and hand made jewelry and seemed to be blessing the world as the wizardess of light bringing joy for all to see.
