Below is a reading from my book THE OTHER ROAD AHEAD followed by a comment inspired by the selection. 👇

In these days of war, depression, and uncertainly we can turn to our pets for some comfort. These animals are innocent bystander to the world outside their little realm. Chaos can rain down on us, everything can seem to go wrong that can go wrong, but the life of our pets is constant. They are there for us to stroke, play with, feed, watch them sleep, and wonder what they are thinking. The ancient Egyptians believed cats had a god-like stature while Scythian civilization thought dogs were magical and were often buried with their dogs.
Even ancient historians, including Herodotus, wrote about the great respect of the Egyptians for their dogs. Thus, in Egyptian families, following the death of a pet, mourning was inevitably declared with shaving heads and fasting. Dead dogs were embalmed in accordance with the customs of ancient Egypt and buried in special cemeteries.*
None of these observations seem wrong to me. Our aforementioned non-human friends have the unique ability to take over our lives and bring joy regardless the dark clouds that hover over our world.
It seems to me that cats I have known live in their own dimensional system where our ideas do not fit. I have observed our cats “watch” things in the air that I cannot detect. They are following subtle changes that they can perceive but we do not see. What causes these exquisitely slight phenomena that hold my cat’s attention?
In their domain all the craziness and “rumors of war” are far away in the people-world. They have their own spirits, angels, and corresponding transcendent beings hovering, calling, singing to them from a place not far away but untouched by us.
